Info
On 22 March 2027, Seasick Steve lands at York Barbican with the kind of stripped-back, road-worn blues he’s been shaping for decades. Born in Oakland and long based around the Seattle area, Steve built his sound from country blues, boogie and blues rock, keeping things raw and direct: gritty vocals, slide guitar lines that feel hand-carved, harmonica blasts, and just enough stomp-and-minimal percussion to push the groove forward.
Before the Seasick Steve name took off, he lived a few musical lives: playing, engineering, moving between the US and Europe, even turning up in France with Crystal Grass, then later working behind the desk for indie acts (including producing Modest Mouse in the mid-90s). The wider breakthrough came in the mid-2000s, especially in the UK after his Jools Holland appearance, and he’s kept that momentum through records like Dog House Music, You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks with John Paul Jones, and the more recent A Trip A Stumble A Fall Down On Your Knees. Expect a set that leans on feel over flash, made for anyone who likes their blues loud, lean, and lived-in.
