Info
Mei Semones brings her Brooklyn-bred, Japanese-American songwriting to Toronto on February 28, 2027 at The Concert Hall. Sitting at the crossroads of indie rock, chamber pop and jazz, her set is built on nimble guitar lines, bright melodies and harmony choices that nod to jazz without losing the punch of compact pop songs.
On stage, her music tends to open up: shifting rhythms, tight interplay with the band, and arrangements that can lean into strings or take a quick detour through math-rock angles, while keeping things intimate and direct. Singing in both English and Japanese, Semones moves through themes like attachment, nostalgia and that push-pull feeling of living between cultures, giving the show a personal backbone even when the grooves get tricky.
