On February 23, 2027 at Assembly Leamington in Royal Leamington Spa, Scientist brings dub back to what it really is: live mixing as performance. The Jamaican producer and engineer (Hopeton Brown), raised in Kingston’s studio and sound-system circuit and shaped by the school of King Tubby, revisits his 1981 landmark album Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse of The Vampires in full, then stretches out beyond it.
Expect a set built for heavy bass and drum patterns, sharp drop-outs, sudden vocal flashes and that signature sense of space that made Scientist’s mixes feel almost architectural. From Studio One roots to his key years at Channel One, he helped define the late-70s/early-80s dub language that later fed into tougher, more direct reggae forms.
If you know the Vampires record from its cult status or from the tracks that popped up on the K-Jah playlist in Grand Theft Auto III, this night is the chance to hear those mixes rebuilt in real time, with the precision and snap that made the Scientist name stick.
