Info
On October 30, 2026, at City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds, John Cooper Clarke brings his sharp, rapid-fire stage poetry back where it hits hardest: right in the room, on the mic, with nothing to hide behind. Coming out of late-70s Britain alongside the punk wave, he carved a lane of his own with spoken-word pieces built on tight rhythm, deadpan humour, and social satire. His delivery is the engine: clipped, precise, and quick, turning everyday language into something that snaps.
Across the years he’s kept the live side at the centre, while his records trace the same edge, from early releases like Innocents and Disguise in Love to later work such as This Time It’s Personal, made with Hugh Cornwell. Expect a set that moves between classic texts and more recent writing, with that unmistakable mix of bite and timing that helped his words travel well beyond poetry circles.
