On 13 March 2027, Saul Williams brings Leap Life to Chalk in Brighton, marking his first full-length solo record in seven years. Named after his leap-year birthday, the album plays like a live laboratory where voice leads everything: spoken word and declamation slide into jazz-informed phrasing, hip-hop cadence, ambient drift and ceremonial percussion. It’s the kind of set where rhythm can feel like a pulse and a poem at the same time, with Williams moving between intensity and quiet focus without settling into one genre.
Long rooted in the boundary zone between concert and poetic performance, Williams has built a singular language across music, literature and film, and Leap Life sharpens that approach rather than smoothing it out. The record also carries the presence of collaborators like Carlos Niño, Robert Del Naja, Moor Mother, Kamasi Washington, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Surya Botofasina, giving the show extra angles without taking the spotlight off his voice.
