Weezer will perform at the 3Arena in Dublin on May 12, 2027. Formed in Los Angeles around Rivers Cuomo, the band has established its blend of power pop and alternative rock: thick guitars, catchy melodies, songwriting that is both ironic and melancholic. From the classics of the Blue Album to the sharper energy of Pinkerton, Weezer has since undergone a succession of evolutions while maintaining that sense of a clean chorus, oscillating between pop-rock formats and more conceptual projects, from Green Album to OK Human, Van Weezer and the SZNZ series. On stage, the idea remains the same: tight playing, straight to the point, and letting cult tracks coexist with newer material.
As the opener, Taking Back Sunday brings back its emo/post-hardcore heritage from the 2000s. Born on Long Island, Adam Lazzara’s band made a name with Tell All Your Friends before broadening its scope with Where You Want to Be and Louder Now: punk tension, melodic refrains, call-and-response vocals and nerve-filled build-ups. With a history marked by member turnover, the group has kept its identity across emo-pop, pop-punk and alternative rock, up to 152, their 2023 album, broader yet still upfront.
