Formed in Perth in the mid-2000s, Alestorm lands in Bristol on 16 January 2027 with its pirate-themed metal, a blend of power and folk, calibrated for refrains to be sung in unison by the crowd. Long known under the name Battleheart, the band has carved out a distinctive niche with a simple, effective formula: fast riffs, keyboards upfront, catchy melodies, and tales of naval battles, treasure, and revelry. From Captain Morgan’s Revenge to Black Sails at Midnight, and on to the more recent Curse of the Crystal Coconut and Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum, Alestorm embraces an offbeat, cheeky tone without ever losing its energy.
Born in Helsinki in 2008, Battle Beast opens the evening with a highly melodic heavy/power metal, driven by generous keyboards and straightforward songwriting inherited from the 1980s. Spotted as early as 2010 at the Wacken Metal Battle, the band has toured relentlessly and sharpened its sound, album after album, from Steel to Circus of Doom, before opening a new chapter with Steelbound. On stage, it’s a set designed to hit hard and go straight to the point.
