DJ Krush, aka Hideaki Ishi, has been shaping a very personal take on hip-hop since the early days of Tokyo’s underground. First connected to the breakdance scene and the Krush Posse crew in the late ’80s, he quickly moved toward an instrumental approach: slow or broken beats, dark textures, dub and ambient pressure, with jazz and soul woven into the mix. That signature sound crystallised on Krush (1994), then Strictly Turntablized and Meiso (1995), as he started crossing over to European and North American circles close to trip-hop, abstract hip-hop and downtempo.
His discography keeps expanding that cinematic palette, from the Ki-Oku collaboration with trumpeter Toshinori Kondo (1996) to Kakusei (1998), Zen (2001), Shinso (2002) and Jaku (2004), then later releases like Butterfly Effect (2015), Kiseki (2017), Cosmic Yard (2018) and Trickster (2020). On 3 October 2026, at The Sugar Club in Dublin, expect a set built for both listening and mixing: precise, atmospheric, and deeply focused on texture and groove.
