Macy Gray is one of those singers who cannot be mistaken for anyone else. Her husky, distinctive voice has guided her through soul and R&B since the late 1990s, but along the way she also touches on pop, funk, and at times more rock- and hip-hop-inflected accents. Her breakthrough came with the album On How Life Is, and subsequent records only broadened this world: from more upbeat, catchy moments to calmer pieces, built on emotion and the stories told in the lyrics. In recent years Gray has enjoyed experimenting with her sound, moving closer to jazz and more austere arrangements, before returning again to soulful energy. This concert offers the chance to hear her material live, with powerful vocals at the forefront.
