If you’ve known them as OCS, Thee Oh Sees, or Oh Sees, it’s the same crew: Osees, led by the tireless John Dwyer. Born in San Francisco in the late 1990s before settling in Los Angeles, the project evolved from a lo-fi, noisy acoustic setup into a tighter rock sound where garage, psychedelic, punk, and experimentation constantly rub shoulders. Their thing is also this Krautrock-inspired, repetitive engine, which stretches tracks into a trance and then cuts them off abruptly as the tempo accelerates.
On stage, the current line-up leans on an impressive rhythmic density: two drummers (Dan Rincon and Paul Quattrone), a solid bass (Tim Hellman), and keyboards (Tomas Dolas) to thicken the sound. From The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In to Orc, Smote Reverser, Face Stabber, A Foul Form, Intercepted Message, or Sorcs 80, the repertoire moves between tight formats, long psychedelic meanderings, and hardcore pushes.
