Now Wave invites Antony Szmierek to perform a DJ set on 10 July 2026 at The Abbey in Manchester. Based in the city, Szmierek has made a name for himself with a formula at the crossroads of spoken word, indie pop and electronica, propelled by a rap-like flow and highly narrative lyrics. His lyrics capture everyday life, urban scenes and intimate portraits, with a keen eye for detail that comes as much from spoken-word poetry as from club culture.
With his EP Poems To Dance To (2023), he set a clear framework: a spoken voice front and centre, melodic refrains when needed, and accessible electronic rhythms, sometimes tinged with house or downtempo hip-hop. In a DJ set format, one can expect to hear this approach to blending atmospheres and narratives, between floor energy and attention to words, in a selection crafted to move the crowd without losing the thread.
