Black Lips head to The Pearl in Vancouver on September 5, 2026, with their gritty garage rock born in Atlanta in the late 1990s. Led by Cole Alexander and Jared Swilley, the band blends punk, psychedelia, and old blues, doo-wop or country influences, all delivered in a direct, deliberately lo‑fi sound that goes straight for the riffs and the twisted choruses.
Since Black Lips! (2003), followed by Good Bad Not Evil (2007) and Arabia Mountain (2011, recorded with Mark Ronson), the group has never really smoothed out its edges: short songs, raw energy, catchy melodies that crack just enough. Line-up changes over the years haven’t altered the DNA but have opened up other textures, without losing the wild, frontal edge that marks their live shows. Expect a taut set, between garage anthems and psychedelic detours, like a concentrated snapshot of their recent discography up to Apocalypse Love (2022).
