Info
On Saturday 26 September 2026, Icelandic duo VÆB play Newcastle University Students’ Union. Formed in Kópavogur by brothers Hálfdán Helgi and Matthías Davíð Matthíasson, VÆB kicked off in 2022 with a TikTok snippet, Aron Can (Borðar kál), before settling into the Icelandic pop landscape. Their formula stays lean and direct: Icelandic lyrics over electronic beats, light hip-hop inflections and concise synth refrains, with tracks cut for immediacy.
After the debut album Væb tékk (2022), the pair kept momentum with a run of singles and collaborations, then dropped the EP Væbauer with Ingi Bauer in 2024. That same year they reached the Söngvakeppnin final with Bíómynd, before winning the 2025 edition with Róa and representing Iceland at the Eurovision final in Basel. In 2026, the new album Væbout continues their blend of accessible, rhythmic pop shaped by the current Nordic scene.
On stage in Newcastle, VÆB fold new material into earlier cuts, leaning on punchy writing, clipped flows and bright synth lines that carry their tracks. Plus support.
