Over the past decade, Skating Polly have pursued the freedom of punk. Formed when stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse were 9 and 13, the Oklahoma band has channeled their chameleonic musicality into a sound they call "ugly-pop," unruly, subversive, and melodic. With Kelli's brother Kurtis Mayo joining on drums in 2017, they have built a community of fans and earned respect from their musical forebears, collaborating with Exene Cervenka (X) and Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening), and touring with Babes in Toyland. On their double album, Chaos County Line, Skating Polly present a more self-possessed approach.
