Grumpy (the collaborative project of Heaven Schmitt), like many hero tricksters before him, has always been a project of juxtaposition: upbeat, radio-ready songs whose buoyant, goofy hooks belie the dark thoughts they describe.
Late last year, the Fader covered their EP Piebald, which was also covered by NPR and the New York Times. Through collaborations with Sidney Gish and Claire Rousay, they have connected with the DIY scene. More recently, Schmitt collaborated with country artist Zach Bryan on his record With Heaven On Top, which features Schmitt’s harmonies.
