Born in London, the band relies on thick riffs, prominent keyboards, and catchy choruses, while drawing on rural legends, occultism, and British horror cinema. From Woodland Rites to This Heathen Land, Green Lung hones a formula where imagination matters as much as impact, sitting between British classic rock and metal heft, built for the live stage.
High On Fire, a trio formed in Oakland around Matt Pike (formerly of Sleep), rounds out the bill with dense heavy metal, somewhere between stoner, sludge and doom, often propelled by an energy akin to thrash. From The Art of Self-Defense and Surrounded by Thieves to Electric Messiah and Cometh the Storm, the band remains faithful to a direct mode of writing: big sound, repetitive riffs, tempos that speed up and then drop, and that rasping vocal delivery that defines its signature. A meeting of two approaches to heaviness, one very British in atmosphere, the other resolutely American in its attack.
