glaive, born Ash Gutierrez in North Carolina in 2005, emerges from the hyperpop wave that gained momentum online in the early 2020s. His music pushes fast, melodic electronica to the forefront, peppered with elements of emo, rap, and bedroom pop. Autotuned vocals, direct hooks and lyrics about youth, loneliness and social dynamics characterize the early releases, from cypress grove (2020) through all dogs go to heaven to the collaboration then i’ll be happy with ericdoa, followed by old dog, new tricks and the EP cycle minnesota is a place that exists (2022). With the album i care so much that i dont care at all (2023), glaive sharpens this line between alternative pop and electronics and shifts the focus from Discord and SoundCloud to the stage.

Live, glaive intertwines dense choruses and angular beats into a set that oscillates between brief eruptions and clear melodies.
