Round Midnight presents Mammal Hands

On 30 September 2026 at Epic Studios in Norwich, Mammal Hands bring their boundary-crossing sound to the stage. The Norwich-born trio — Jordan Smart on saxophone, Nick Smart on piano and Rob Turner (formerly of GoGo Penguin) on drums — folds jazz, contemporary classical, electronica, folk and minimalism into fluid, melodic narratives driven by cyclical rhythms and evolving motifs.

After five albums, the band opens a new chapter with Circadia, released in 2026 on ACT and the first to feature Turner. Centred on ideas of cycles and renewal, these new pieces lean into pulse and texture: post-rock energy and folk nuance meeting electronica-tinged beats, with space for patient builds and sharp dynamic turns.

On stage, Mammal Hands focus on interplay and atmosphere rather than showy solos. Expect hypnotic piano patterns, long-line sax melodies and crisp, beat-led grooves that move from meditative to propulsive without breaking the thread. The set will draw on Circadia alongside earlier material, reframed live with the trio’s tight communication and a focus on rhythm and texture.
