Info
On 10 September 2026, André Rieu brings his Johann Strauss Orchestra to OVO Hydro, Glasgow. Trained in Liège and Maastricht, the Dutch violinist and conductor has built his career around the Viennese waltz and a taste for melodic, festive orchestral music. Since founding the orchestra in 1987, he has shaped concerts that glide from Strauss to operetta, film themes, popular songs and light classical works, arranged for a large ensemble with a feel for dance and theatre.
On stage, Rieu leads and plays as a soloist, trading cues with his musicians and giving space to guest singers and choir. The programme flows in sequences rather than set-piece showpieces, with waltzes at the core, lively polkas, familiar melodies and moments designed for the audience to lean in and take part. It’s classical repertoire presented with an easy touch: melody first, rhythm upfront, and direct contact with the room. In Glasgow, expect a blend of evergreen waltzes and detours across operetta and cinema, delivered by an orchestra built for colour and sweep, with the small stage rituals that have become part of his way of sharing music.
