Sigur Rós

Sigur Rós play SEC Armadillo in Glasgow on 2 September 2026. Formed in Reykjavík in 1994 by Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson and bassist Georg Hólm, the band writes long, patient pieces built from bowed guitar, gradual shifts and Jónsi’s falsetto, sung in Icelandic or in a phonetic language often called Hopelandic. On stage, they open up the arrangements with space and silence, sometimes adding strings or brass.

Live, the band revisits material from across the catalogue: Von and Ágætis byrjun, the untitled album known as ( ), Takk…, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, Valtari, Kveikur and the recent Átta. The concert leans on texture and dynamics rather than pure volume, with crescendos that arrive unhurried and leave room for detail. Visuals and lighting remain spare and precise, keeping focus on timbre, bow-on-guitar drones and steady, low-key rhythms. This show traces how these songs take on scale in a concert hall, moving between ambient drift and tighter, weightier sections.
