Pixies mark four decades with P40, a set built around the sharp contrasts and surreal imagery that shaped alternative rock. Formed in Boston in 1986, Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering forged a language of quiet-loud tension, jagged riffs and immediate melodies, carried by songs like Where Is My Mind?, Debaser and Monkey Gone to Heaven. Reformed since 2004, the group keeps touring and releasing new music, with a line-up evolving around the core trio.
In Manchester on 24 May 2026 at Aviva Studios, the band digs into its catalogue with the urgency of a live room: early Surfer Rosa abrasions, Doolittle’s skewed pop and newer tracks that stretch the palette while holding the frame. The set leans on compact, high-contrast arrangements, harmonies that cut through and dynamics that flip from hush to eruption, showing how these pieces breathe on stage. P40 frames a band still working its own code, close to the bone and focused on the songs.
