Mary Coughlan blends husky notes with the laconic wit of Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee. She draws on deep blues back to Bessie Smith, with the sardonic, bittersweet defiance and despair of Edith Piaf. She delivers it all in an Irish drawl: sceptical, rueful, mournful and ardent for love.
Over 40 years, Mary Coughlan has made personal music about what goes on between men and women.
