Info
Portugal. The Man lands at Manchester Academy on 8 December 2026 for a set built on restless indie rock, psych swirls and pop instincts. Formed in mid-2000s Alaska before settling in Portland, the band centers on singer-guitarist John Gourley and bassist Zach Carothers, who first sketched a raw, experimental sound on Waiter: “You Vultures!” and Church Mouth. The palette widened with Censored Colors and The Satanic Satanist, then tightened on American Ghetto and In the Mountain in the Cloud as the songwriting grew sharper.
A turn with Danger Mouse on Evil Friends pulled electronic textures to the surface, a thread they carried into Woodstock and its runaway single Feel It Still, and later Chris Black Changed My Life, where lean arrangements frame lyrics that often nod to social and political themes. Live, the group moves easily from fuzzed-out grooves to clean, singable hooks, stacking deep cuts next to crowd favorites. Across two decades and a catalogue in constant motion, Portugal. The Man keeps the core intact: melodic flair, a rhythmic pulse, and a taste for bending genres without getting stuck in one lane.
