Current Joys

Current Joys is Nick Rattigan’s long-running solo project, born in Nevada alongside his duo Surf Curse. At The Academy, Dublin, on 27 August 2026, he brings a catalogue that moved from stark lo-fi sketches to fuller, band-shaped songs without dropping his taste for raw edges. Early releases like Wild Heart (2013) and Me Oh My Mirror (2015) leaned on rough guitars, bedroom textures and diaristic writing, blending indie rock, bedroom pop and electric folk. A Different Age (2018) widened the frame with more structured pop, letting in new wave shades and a post-punk tension, before Voyager (2021) opened the sound further with a more cinematic sense of space.

On stage, Rattigan navigates that arc with a set that swings from intimate confession to taut, rhythmic drive, keeping the backbone of simple melodies, held-back tempos and a deliberately grainy production feel. Between DIY roots and a group format under the lights, Current Joys focuses on songs that stay close while opening out, tracing a line from home-recorded intimacy to something that fills the room, still anchored by his personal, straight-ahead songwriting.
