Info
Sigur Rós bring their post-rock into orchestral focus with the Ulster Orchestra on 7 September 2026 at Bord Gáis in Dublin. Built around Jónsi’s airy falsetto and his bowed electric guitar, the Icelandic band works with long forms, slow dynamics and minimal motifs, sung in Icelandic or in a phonetic language that turns words into texture. For this orchestra show, strings, brass and woodwinds reframe pieces from Ágætis byrjun and ( ), through Takk…, Valtari, Kveikur, up to Átta. The set lets themes unspool patiently, melodies surface then fade, and the orchestra moves with the core trio rather than simply adding weight. Crescendos arrive by layers, from near-silence to dense bloom. On stage, Sigur Rós shape the music like a landscape: fragile openings, percussive pulses, sudden bursts, long reverberations. With the Ulster Orchestra, those contours gain new timbres and space, drawing out details and counter-melodies folded deep into the originals, and giving familiar tracks a different light.
