Info

Sun Kil Moon, the project launched by Mark Kozelek in San Francisco in 2002 after Red House Painters, plays Foufounes Électriques in Montreal on September 13, 2026. Named after the South Korean boxer Sung-Kil Moon, the band started from slowcore and folk rock foundations: measured tempos, sparse arrangements and a taste for narrative detail. Early milestones like Ghosts of the Great Highway and Tiny Cities, built around Modest Mouse covers, set the tone, followed by April and the more acoustic Admiral Fell Promises. From Among the Leaves and Benji onward, the writing shifted toward talk-sung chronicles where memory, day-to-day moments and autobiographical fragments take the front seat, a path extended on Universal Themes and Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood. Collaborations have also marked the journey, including work with Jesu.

On stage, Kozelek brings these long-form pieces with guitar and voice, sometimes joined by musicians, letting stories unfold at their own pace. The live set often drifts between folk, indie and slowcore, with the words and their grain at the center.
