On April 28, 2028, at 6:30 PM at the Zénith Nantes Métropole, Roméo & Juliette returns to the stage.
Roméo & Juliette has already drawn more than 11 million spectators worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show has been widely staged while retaining its status as a work of French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, where it gathered nearly 2.5 million spectators, the production has been carried from the start by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara. The show gives audiences the chance to see this original pair reunited on stage.
For Cécilia Cara, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Finding it again twenty years later, alongside Damien, was an important moment, as if we had never been apart, but enriched by everything life has given us. This return has symbolic value: coming full circle, returning to the place where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now inform the characters in a different way. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to reconnect with Juliet and the French audience.”
In the same vein, Damien Sargue adds: “Coming back to Paris after having taken Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and rediscovering it today alongside Cécilia, with the hindsight and maturity time has given us, gives this adventure a new depth.”
With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become landmarks of French pop culture—including Les Rois du monde and Aimer—Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has traveled across cultures and adapted to the changes of its time: new techniques, new stage codes, new audience expectations. Faithful to its DNA while renewing itself, it preserves what makes its identity: familiar songs, a sweeping aesthetic, and a strong sense of spectacle.
For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a universal and timeless love story. It poses a question that remains relevant: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with a force that crosses the centuries, and it is this emotion that we continue to share with audiences.
Announcing the return of Roméo & Juliette is not merely a renewal. In 2027, Roméo & Juliette returns in a reimagined version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving the essence that has made it successful for a quarter of a century: a timeless story, universal emotions, and a recognisable musical signature. This return comes with a new cast, new costumes and a new scenography, rethought for today without touching the show’s DNA.
