Info
Rock of the 80’s hits The Bronson in Ottawa on August 19, 2026, bringing together Big Country, China Crisis and The Icicle Works.
Born in Dunfermline in 1981, Big Country shaped a taut, melodic rock where twin guitars lift like echoes of Scottish folk. First led by Stuart Adamson and now anchored by Bruce Watson, the band moved from post-punk and new wave into the 80s with albums such as The Crossing and The Seer, later leaning toward more direct, roots-tinged writing. On stage, they keep the focus on driving rhythms, ringing guitars and big, singable choruses.
From Kirkby near Liverpool, China Crisis revolves around Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon, weaving supple basslines, melodic keys and clear guitars into understated new wave and synth-pop. Early singles set their tone, later refined on Flaunt the Imperfection with Walter Becker, and carried through to Autumn in the Neighbourhood. Live, they drift from introspective pop to softer, sophisti-pop shades.
Formed in early-80s Liverpool, The Icicle Works coalesced around Ian McNabb. Their blend of post-punk tension, neo-psychedelia and tuneful rock yielded singles like Love Is a Wonderful Colour and a self-titled debut before broadening at the decade’s end. On stage, they balance crisp guitars, chiming hooks and a darker undertow.
