Oval: Anamanaguchi

Anamanaguchi present their latest project, Anyway (2025), a turn toward alt/indie rock, on 25 May 2026 at Sala Upload, Barcelona. Live, the quartet deploys its hybrid of guitars, bass and drums with 8-bit programming, where band riffs meet digital melodies.

Formed in New York in the mid-2000s, they began programming tracks on Nintendo cartridges and made a name for themselves on the 8-bit scene with the EP Power Supply (2006) and Dawn Metropolis (2009). They gained wider visibility with the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (2010) and with Endless Fantasy (2013), funded via Kickstarter. Over time they have opened their sound toward more vocal-led electronic music, as on [USA] (2019), without losing their ties to video game culture and the indie scenes.

Among collaborations and projects, notable works include contributions with Hatsune Miku, Meesh, Hana, 8485 and Joseph Trapanese, the music for the experimental game Capsule Silence XXIV, and the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023). In Barcelona, the setlist will focus on Anyway and this shift to alternative rock, while maintaining the connection between band energy and the digital textures that define them.
