On 17 July 2026, at the Théâtre Antique in Arles, an evening devoted to musical exchange will feature Jordi Savall and Hespèrion XXI, followed by L’Antidote. A gambist and conductor from Catalonia, Savall continues his work on medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music. With Hespèrion XXI, a flexible ensemble nourished by the study of sources and the use of historical instruments, he presents a repertoire in which European scores converse with the traditions of the Mediterranean basin. Graceful ornamentation, freedom of improvisation and close attention to timbre shape this concert, conceived as a journey through courts, churches and public squares—from Iberia to the Ottoman and Sephardic worlds.
L’Antidote brings together percussionist Bijan Chemirani, cellist Redi Hasa and pianist Rami Khalifé. The trio builds its music without a fixed score, at the intersection of Persian rhythms, a singing cello and a piano rooted in the classical tradition and sonic research. Between repetitive pulses, Mediterranean lines and Balkan echoes, their improvisations weave a continuous thread that extends the sound journey initiated by Savall and Hespèrion XXI: a shared listening and traditions meeting in the present.
