Info
At the NEC in Marly on 21 May 2026, the Marly Jazz Festival brings together two ensembles that approach jazz from distinctly different angles. Franco-Taiwanese singer Estelle Perrault performs with a quintet, presenting a repertoire shaped by her voice and personal history. Straddling classical inheritance and more contemporary impulses, she favors nuance, melodic lines and a supple phrasing. Both her lyrics and her interpretive choices explore themes of identity, nostalgia and inner balance. The group creates a playing space that lets the arrangements breathe, serving the narrative and a collective listening experience.
Trumpeter, composer and arranger Nicolas Folmer presents a sextet in which hard bop, post-bop and electric colors tinged with funk intertwine. His writing engages in dialogue with improvisation, between emphatic grooves, contemporary textures and reworkings of the repertoire. Having collaborated with figures such as Daniel Humair and Dave Liebman, he blends a bop heritage with an orchestral sense, producing music that flows—precise in form and expansive in energy. Two sets that answer one another without merging are brought together on the same evening.
