Info
Pert Near Sandstone land at Pavillonen in Grenaa, Denmark, on 19 November 2026. Anchored in Minneapolis, the band carries the American string-band tradition into a present-day bluegrass that folds in old-time, folk and Americana. Active since the mid-2000s, they cut their teeth on the Midwest roots circuit before finding a place on bluegrass and folk stages across North America. A self-titled debut in 2007 set the pace, followed by No City Limits (2010), Waiting Days (2013) and Discovery of Honey (2016), with songwriting taking a bigger role alongside agile picking. Built around J Lenz, Justin Bruhn, Nate Sipe and Kevin Kniebel, the group shapes a tight acoustic sound driven by close harmonies, brisk tempos and the back-and-forth between fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar and upright bass. Ryan Young, a founding member later linked to Trampled by Turtles, stays close as engineer and co-producer. On stage, the set moves from dance-leaning reels to slower ballads without losing a raw front-porch edge, carried by years of shared playing.
