Info

On 30 May 2026 at Sala Apolo (Barcelona), Maruja delivers a live set that blends post-punk and free jazz with a rhythmic pulse that flirts with rap. The Manchester band builds its pieces from dry breakbeats, gritty guitar loops, a saxophone that edges into improvisation and a bass tinged with psychedelia. Over this fabric, the vocals enter and recede in clear phrases, and the group makes room for jams that breathe and push each song forward like a shared tide.

Onstage, their music stretches into long crescendos, alternating tension and release. Repetitive riffs drive things on, the rhythm section keeps the pulse with precision, and the sax sketches lines that fracture without losing their centre. There is a collective energy that reaches both body and mind, with lyrics that confront social pressure, the city and its collisions head-on. No strict labels apply: what matters is the journey the band constructs with the audience, through dynamics and friction.

Formed in the early 2020s, Maruja consolidated this aesthetic with the EP Knocknarea and now completes their debut album alongside Music For Nations. Their reputation is rooted in live performance, where they translate the studio’s physicality into a compact setup focused on guitar, rhythm section and saxophone. At Apolo, the plan is to take that dynamic a step further and let each block of sound find its own breaking point.
