Pharmakon

Pharmakon, the project of New York sound artist Margaret Chardiet active since 2006, arrives at Casa Montjuïc, Barcelona, on 22 May 2026. Forged in the DIY underground, Chardiet transforms personal experiences and a self-taught ethic into raw, physical compositions. Her practice focuses on the essentials: friction, breath, and direct contact—music conceived from the body rather than ornamentation.

Between electronic synthesis, the voice, and a staging that pushes the boundaries of proximity, sound becomes gesture: timbre functions as character, noise circulates like contagion. Her trajectory ranges from experimental punk to film composition (Transfiguration, Sound of Metal), while maintaining a rigorous and transparent method. Live, saturated layers, abrasive textures, and insistent pulses create an immersive space where listening is also a physical experience, the voice cutting through distortions and measured silences.
