Oval: Vanessa Amara

On 3 April 2026 at Casa Montjuïc in Barcelona, the Danish duo Vanessa Amara — Birk Gjerlufsen and Sebastián Santillana — give a live performance that defies labels. Their music moves between the tradition of contemporary classical and sonic exploration, with a playful touch that disarms the genre’s rigidity. Using samples of classical music and cut-up, reassembled voices, they create a fragmentary pop made of textures, pauses and subtle frictions. Since their releases on the Copenhagen-based label Posh Isolation, the project has honed a language that looks to both the past and the future at once, like an open dialogue that shifts with each piece.

Beyond their own releases, the duo has taken this textural approach into collaborations with artists from other spheres, including Two Shell and Rosalía, contributing to tracks released by LUX such as “La Perla,” “Sexo, Violencia y Llantas” and “Magnolias.” On stage, their proposal places the listener inside that elusive space: layers that appear and disappear, melodies that emerge between noise and harmony, and a pulse that hints more than it asserts.
