Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop lands in Barcelona on 26 September 2026 for a live show at Sala Razzmatazz. The Wellington outfit has spent more than two decades honing its own blend of reggae and dub, infused with soul, funk and electronic elements, and on stage they steer it into hypnotic detours designed for dancing. Joe Dukie’s (Dallas Tamaira) deep, warm voice sets the course, while Fitchie holds the pulse behind production and drums, with Dobie Blaze on keyboards and Jetlag Johnson on guitar. The bass breathes wide, arrangements open up and effects ebb and flow, leaving space for improvisation.

Their repertoire typically includes cuts from Based on a True Story, Dr Boondigga & The Big BW and Blackbird, reworked into extended versions with dynamic shifts and instrumental passages that grow on the fly. Roady, Wandering Eye or Blackbird may surface, but the focus is on how the band stretches the groove and makes the rhythm section converse with keyboards and electronic textures. After years of touring Europe and Oceania, their live sound is organic and flexible—closer to a session than an album rundown. At Razzmatazz, the idea is to surrender to the dub cadence and sway until the final fade.
