Hanne Boel

Danish singer Hanne Boel takes the stage at Teaterbygningen in Køge on 5 November 2026. Rooted in a blend of soul, pop, jazz and gospel, she first found her footing in the early 80s, graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Music before stepping into the funk outfit Blast. That groove-driven start still runs through her music: a tight rhythm section, vocal harmonies shaped by her ensemble years, and an ear for arrangements where horns and keyboards carry the melody without loading it down.

Launching her solo career at the end of the decade, Boel has steadily widened her palette. The soul and R&B colours remain, but she threads in pop clarity and quieter spaces, favouring songs where the voice leads and the melody keeps centre stage. Onstage, that plays out in a direct, unfussy delivery and a balance between pulse and intimacy: sturdy backbeats and warm textures one moment, then a stripped-back dialogue between voice and a few instruments the next.

Over the years, collaborations with jazz players and Scandinavian folk-leaning musicians have nudged her repertoire toward more pared-down formats without losing accessibility. In Køge, she brings that trajectory into focus, moving between groove-led pieces and softer contours, drawing on a catalogue shaped by craft rather than ornament.
