Zentone

On October 17, 2026 at Le Silex in Auxerre, Zentone brings together on stage Zenzile and High Tone, two pillars of French dub that appeared at the end of the 1990s. On one side, Zenzile, who has always woven their dub with a punk‑rock energy, nourished by English models steeped in Jamaican sounds – The Clash, The Specials, The Ruts. On the other, High Tone, heir to hybrid music and to an electro strand that stretches textures and sculpts the bass.

Conceived as a shared laboratory, the Zentone project sets up a dialogue between performance techniques, improvisation and layered construction. After a first volume in 2006, the collective reunited for Messenger, recorded under near‑live conditions and mixed at Bat Records. There you hear Jolly Joseph’s falsetto on “Make You Cry,” the misty lightness of “Messenger,” and the stripped‑down piano‑and‑voice of “Call I A Dreamer.”

On stage, the setlist draws from both chapters of Zentone, from Messenger, and offers glimpses of a few classics by Zenzile and High Tone. A continuous journey between organic dub and electronic pulses, conceived to let ideas, the bass and the echo circulate. Opening act.
