Danyèl Waro

On 2 June 2026 at the Dancing in Sète, Danyèl Waro returns with his quintet for a date on the Dernié Viraz Tour, his final tour in mainland France. A leading figure of maloya, he sings in Réunion Creole texts that weave the intimate with the political, between the memory of slavery, social realities and questions of identity. On stage, lead and backing vocals answer the traditional percussion — roulèr, kayamb, pikèr — in an acoustic setup where call-and-response drives the performance. The set alternates taut laments and ritual-tinged songs, carried by precise songwriting and a collective presence that lets the pulse guide the audience. As much a poet as a musician, Waro champions a raw, direct maloya that preserves the island’s soul while opening itself to those discovering it here.

In the opening slot, DJ Baobassa spins an electropicalist journey, vinyl in hand. Rhythms from Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America intersect to establish the mood and tempo before Waro’s quintet takes the stage.
