Kelly Moran

On April 7, 2026 at 918 Bathurst in Toronto, New York composer and pianist Kelly Moran brings her intricate take on the instrument to the stage. Classically trained yet anchored in contemporary experiment, she stretches the piano’s vocabulary with prepared techniques, resonant overtones and a discreet electronic halo. Her pieces unfold in slow-blooming arcs, moving from pointillist figures and repeating cells to dense harmonies and softly humming drones, then easing back into quiet.

Moran arrives with Moves in the Field, a new cycle of ten piano works that marks her return after several years of writing and rethinking. It follows Optimist, Bloodroot and Ultraviolet, records that mapped out her blend of minimalism, ambient color and percussive timbre. Live, that language turns tactile: keys ring, strings buzz, patterns settle into a steady, hypnotic pulse.

Along the way, she has collaborated with FKA twigs, Yves Tumor, The Avalanches, Kelsey Lu, Oneohtrix Point Never and Margaret Leng Tan, influences that surface in her sense of texture and form. An evening centered on the piano and its expanded possibilities.
