An evening with Theo Katzman

On June 5, 2026, Theo Katzman brings his songs to the Mojo Club in Hamburg. The New York–born songwriter and multi-instrumentalist found his way onto the stage through the rock and funk scene at the University of Michigan—first with My Dear Disco/Ella Riot, later as guitarist, drummer and vocalist for the indie-funk collective Vulfpeck. At the same time he developed his solo universe: melodic pop-rock with touches of soul and folk, clear arrangements, a groove at its foundation, multi-voiced hooks and lyrics that look inward while remaining light.

His albums mark the milestones: Romance Without Finance (2011), Heartbreak Hits (2017), Modern Johnny Sings: Songs in the Age of Vibe (2020) and Be the Wheel (2024). On stage Katzman favors presence over effects, precise songwriting and subtle dynamics. On this evening, soft rock feeling meets pop-soul hues and acoustic ballads—sometimes driving, sometimes pared back—always with a keen sense of melody and timing. For years he has alternated between solo tours and shows with Vulfpeck across North America and Europe; in Hamburg his own voice now takes center stage, approachable and direct, without frills.
