Pat Metheny

On April 28, 2026 at The Centre in Vancouver, Pat Metheny presents his singular approach to the guitar. Since the mid-70s, the American guitarist-composer has shaped a sound that moves between contemporary jazz, rock, folk and Latin pulses, with clear melodies, shifting harmonies and a sharp sense of texture. Co-founder of the Pat Metheny Group with Lyle Mays, he has also explored other paths, from the layered studio worlds of Secret Story to the mechanized experiments of Orchestrion, and the stripped-down intimacy of One Quiet Night and Dream Box.

On stage, Metheny switches between electric and acoustic guitars, glides from lyrical themes to tight grooves, stacks loops and counterlines, and leaves room for improvisation. He revisits pieces from across his catalog and reshapes them in real time, sometimes opening windows to freer idioms heard alongside partners from Ornette Coleman’s orbit to Brad Mehldau. Expect a set built on flow, dynamics and form, anchored by a guitar voice with a clear identity.
