Info
Lila Downs is at MTELUS on June 26, 2026, in Montréal. Born in Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, and raised between southern Mexico and the American Midwest, the Mexican-American singer and songwriter builds a repertoire where traditional Mexican and Central American styles meet urban influences. Ranchera, son, bolero, cumbia and folk mix with touches of jazz, rock and blues. She writes and sings in Spanish and English, as well as in Mixtec and Zapotec, with lyrics that address migration, indigenous identities, borders and contemporary social issues.
Her path runs from early self-released work to La Sandunga (1999), La Línea / The Line (2001) and Una Sangre / One Blood (2004), then Pecados y Milagros (2011), Balas y Chocolate (2015), Al Chile (2019) and Se Habla de Dios (2023). On stage, she revisits this catalog with arrangements that move between festive pulses and quiet storytelling, rooted in popular traditions and open to new textures. Regularly invited on collaborative projects across Latin America and Europe, she brings that wide network and experience into a focused, generous live set.
Venue: MTELUS, 59 Rue Sainte-Catherine Est, H2X 3P5 Montréal, Canada.
