Info

On June 4, 2026, Cake brings its singular alt-rock to L’Olympia in Montreal. Formed in early-90s Sacramento, the band has shaped a lean sound that knits country twang, funk snap, indie-pop melodies and brass into tight, uncluttered grooves. At the center is John McCrea’s talk-sung delivery, dry and precise, paired with Vince DiFiore’s trumpet lines that act like a second voice. Prominent bass, crisp acoustic guitars and repetitive motifs drive songs that favor pulse and concision over flashy solos.

Their path runs from Motorcade of Generosity and Fashion Nugget—where wry covers sit next to everyday storytelling—to Prolonging the Magic, Comfort Eagle, Pressure Chief and Showroom of Compassion. The tone stays mid-tempo, the humor understated, the writing focused on small details and sidelong takes on pop culture. On stage, the setup remains economical and rhythmic, letting the trumpet–bass dialogue and steady patterns take the lead. A clear-cut approach, refined over decades.
