Born Sean Scolnick in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, he found his place on the North American folk scene by blending unvarnished acoustic songwriting with a rock pulse and a touch of country. After a New York stint and a breakout with When the Sun’s Gone Down (2005), he sharpened his live-ready sound with his band The War Eagles on the self-titled album (2008). Be Set Free (2009) leaned into melody and introspection, while The Way We Move (2012) pushed the rhythmic edge of his folk rock. The Spirit Moves (2015) and Lost At Last Vol. 1 (2017) pared things back, favoring ballads, harmonies, and lyrics centered on vulnerability and sobriety.
