Info
On 26 March 2026 at Des Lendemains Qui Chantent in Tulle, Grupo Compay Segundo brings the Cuban sound to life as he loved it. After Compay’s passing in 2003, his musicians continued the journey under the name El Grupo Compay Segundo, faithful to his wish to play the island’s traditional music and to tell its story. With Vívelo, released in 2023, they take a more personal turn: eight original tracks co-written by Salvador Repilado, bassist, musical director and Compay’s son, and by Maikel Dinza, a rising figure from Havana recognized at Cubadisco. The record moves on the border between tradition and the present, and features renowned Cuban guests such as Issac Delgado, Julio Padrón, Alexander Abreu, Sory Pérez and Rolando Luna. It also includes reinterpretations, from “San Luisera,” sung by Compay as early as the 1940s, to a Spanish adaptation of Bernard Lavilliers’ “Mains d’Or.”
Awa is Marième, a multi-instrumentalist who thinks in classical terms and breathes jazz. Her quartet blends contemporary French song with progressive impulses, featuring narrative songwriting that gives pride of place to contrasts. Multicultural and curious, she weaves supple melodies, shifting harmonies and rhythms that sweep you along, between suspended gentleness and controlled tension. An ideal introduction before the warmth of the Cuban sound.
