Goran Bregovic et l’Orchestre

Goran Bregovic, a Bosnian composer and multi-instrumentalist, came to prominence in the early 1990s with his music for Emir Kusturica’s film Time of the Gypsies. Since then he has explored a distinctive territory where Balkan brass bands, klezmer heritage, Eastern influences and classical touches meet. His compositions play on the tension between melancholy and vitality, with direct melodies, rolling brass and choirs that carry far.

On stage he brings together the Wedding and Funeral Orchestra, a brass band, Bulgarian vocalists and soloists from the Balkans, the Maghreb and Israel. The concert presents instrumental pieces and songs that move between tradition and contemporary arrangements, reflecting the taste for blending that characterizes his writing. Timbres converse here — from the breath of the brass to the voices of the choirs, passing through motifs tinged with Mediterranean colours.
