Today marks more than 35 years since they began cultivating bad taste. Their very punk, jubilant and convulsive energy has taken them to venues all over France and to the stages of most major festivals. Marcel sits somewhere between Bourvil and Metallica. By playing and blending billions of influences, the group will have invented raggabilly, trash operetta, country-selective and blouck (black-zouk).
Willingly decadent, fond of bad taste, Marcel set about embracing bad taste as a style. They revel in our faults, press where it hurts. If they give the impression of not caring about anything, Marcel do not shy away when it is time to raise their voices and deliver outbursts; and if you had to pin them with a label, you would say Marcel is a 3D band: dance, goof around, denounce.
If they are happy to revisit, rearrange their big blunders, write, compose and react to this daily life that is so enchanting, it has become vital again for them. Marcel has always laughed in the face of his fears and has used these little or big tricks to hold on in the face of life's trip-ups. The news, increasingly anxiety-inducing thanks to partisan and toxic info channels, the machinery of discredit, the merchants of the inevitable, the crisis of trust, suspicion extended to all domains—all of this offered too many topics not to bite into them with a biting and mocking tone.
