Dea Matrona is the story of a teenage encounter between Mollie McGinn and Orláith Forsythe, initially against the backdrop of a Gaelic-language singing contest, then in the streets of Belfast, playing together and building a real on-stage chemistry. Their path unfolded the old-fashioned way, with an unapologetic DIY ethos: back-to-back concerts, self-financed outings, and a fan base earned over the years, with no shortcuts.
With For Your Sins (2024), the duo laid down a solid first milestone, somewhere between taut, edgy rock and more ethereal melodies, with a taste for choruses that linger and writing that speaks to identity, the sense of being on the outside, and what it means to hold on. They are now following up with a second album, Hate That I Care, announced for June 5, 2026, more upfront about the intimate and political questions that run through them, while preserving that direct energy that makes them strong on stage.
