Info
On June 13, 2027 Clinton Fearon will be at Patronaat (Haarlem) with a set that explicitly draws on his years with The Gladiators. Fearon entered the Kingston roots-reggae circle in the late 1960s as a bassist, singer and songwriter, and you can still hear that in his playing: melodic bass lines that carry the songs, classic one-drop rhythms, and vocals that tell more than they pose. During Clinton Fearon Sings The Gladiators those roots come to the fore again, with songs that revolve around social and spiritual observations, everyday life and Jamaican memories. At the same time, this is not a museum piece: since moving to Seattle in the late 1980s, Fearon has developed his own pared-down live approach, somewhere between solid roots reggae and more acoustic, direct arrangements. Expect an evening in which the heritage of The Gladiators is sung by someone who helped write it.
